3 Reasons to Go Ombre

Here’s a fun fact for ya…the ombre hair effect (dark roots to light ends) that we thought was a fairly new trend was actually created more than a decade ago by Kris Sorbie, the Education Artistic Director of Redken 5th Avenue. Inspired by animal fur and how it’s not the same color from root to end, Sorbie decided to give the look a try on a few of her clients (who LOVED it). And the rest is history. Here are three reasons to rock this style.

Ombre helps highlights last longer…

“It gives hair a natural soft shadow at the scalp and gradually gets lighter down the length to the ends, reducing the need for frequent touch-ups,” says Sorbie.

Ombre makes hair look thicker…

If you have thin strands, Sorbie suggests asking your stylist to create a lighter ombre effect on the surface and leave the underneath darker. “Hair will look twice as thick immediately,” she says.

Ombre is perfect for those with blonde ambition…

If you don’t think blonde suits your skin tone, ask your stylist to do the ombre look starting at chin length, leaving the hairline dyed in the natural hue that flatters your complexion.
